Three puppies, who dont even live together, the youngest being Gekko a mere 9½ wks, the oldest being Rosa and Gwiza all of 12 wks – can be ever so slightly wild and noisy in their sheer joy of meeting up again. and then there was the fun of all the new people to greet and play with and especially the children – even the most sharptoothed pup behaved around the kids, not biting, not stealing their sweets…. good puppy! But all the new things were taking in their little strides – the many older pups and dogs – the pups was the most fun to meet, the older dogs could be ever so unwilling to great little obnoxious puppies. It was a fun day, resulting in some very tired puppies, and I think both Funny and Gekko was very happy to be able to run on the beach Sunday morning to get some of all the excitement out

first day in puppy class

Despite pouring rain all day, puppies Rosa and Gekko had their first day in Puppy class. Rosa just loved it, walked in with tail waving and feet moving confidently, but then again she HAD been here before when we took the entire litter a few weeks back. And it was so much FUN to meet all the new friends – a sweet red wheaten Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who did look a little like her siblings (in colour if not in coat texture), a fun prick eared Picard and of course her mate Gekko, plus a good few others. First lecture was look at me – not very difficult for a person fixated little pup like Rosa, then sit, which came a lot more slowly – I mean… the grass was WET!, then “NO” – an excersize I was certain she would fail: but, she actually listened and didnt take the treat so temptingly placed on my boot, hmmm maybe there is still hope for her? and at last “come” which she did with usual RR speed and gusto. Gekko meanwhile got a little tired, being all of two weeks younger and took a good nap on Sophies shoulder

The jetsetting Lewanikas

From gekko

Quiet week finally – the pups are settling well into their new homes, many has already started to learn lots of things, from ordinary house breaking to tracking and obedience and all of them seems to be doing really well. Also the jetsetters G. Roux and Zula are settling in great – their long trips in the faithful – slightly frayed by now – Sherpa bag long over, if not forgotten by other passengers and cabin crew on their flights: Roux charmed the entire cabin crew into letting her hang out in the pantry and I bet she just loved all the attention and Zula had made such an impression that her new human, waiting impatiently after customs in Atlanta, with a big picture of her, was told by several passengers that her pup was coming real soon :-)

From Elins photos – Zula arrives in Atlanta airport

The final jetsetter went the opposite way – though not as far: Ikimba Gekko Playbow flew from Helsinki and didnt have quite so much time to charm everyone – but he sure did his best with his little wrinkled face.  He is now living happily with Sophie at Aarhus University – just imagine having the entire University park to play in? He is just the last in a long list of travellers in that black bag: Yankee, DD, Zazu, Mandie, Roux  - Ridgebacks DO travel well – Welcome Gekko!

What a weekend – from 3 pups to 5 and now just 2. First Gwiza and Gandalf came back for a weekend visit – it was fun to see how quickly they settled right back into the puppy pile and Saturday evening all five pups was tearing after each other all over the place followed by Sammy who wanted to play along too.  But Sunday morning little Pink (now Zizula)  had to get up very early for the long drive to Kastrup airport and the waiting flight for Atlanta, where she has just arrived and been met by her new “mom” who is flying her back home to Baltimore. Later Reds (now Emma) new people came all the way from Heidelberg in Germany to take her home. So it is quiet now… strange feeling….

Little pups needs to learn lots of different things, and yesterday we put  Pink, Red and Rosa in the car for a trip to town. The entertainment value was definitely off the charts – three little, NOT leash trained pups, jumping like kangaroos (must be the Australian blood in them) , not that their lack of forward motion mattered much, we were stopped every 2 meters by adoring people wanting to pet the little ones, so lots of positive experience.

On the other side of the Atlantic – White – now Lewanika Witches Great Roux – arrived safely at her new home after a long trip, first in the plane where she spent most of the time snoozing in her comfy sherpa bag, interspaced by playing with adoring co-passangers and air personel. Then many many hours in a car going from New York to the Canadian border where she was welcomed by her new owner and her great uncle Mo – Yankees brother.
